    Matt Gaetz, a former U.S. Representative from Florida, withdrew his nomination for U.S. Attorney General in November 2024 amid significant controversy. President-elect Donald Trump had announced Gaetz as his pick on November 13, 2024, prompting Gaetz to resign from Congress to prepare for the confirmation process. However, his nomination faced immediate backlash due to longstanding allegations of sexual misconduct, including accusations of engaging in sexual activities with a 17-year-old and paying for sex, as well as illicit drug use. Although the Department of Justice had previously decided not to charge him, the House Ethics Committee was conducting its own investigation into these matters.

    Gaetz’s nomination was met with skepticism from both Democratic and Republican senators. Notably, Senator Ted Cruz reportedly informed Trump that Gaetz lacked sufficient support for confirmation, leading to Gaetz’s withdrawal on November 21, 2024.

    Following his withdrawal, he transitioned to media, launching “The Matt Gaetz Show” on One America News Network in January of this year.
